July 3rd to the 24th I am in charge of running the youth LDP program at GBC. This is such an awesome program. Truly I think it'd be amazing to run one of these programs every month! So the program is for teenagers who are aged 15-17 and have a heart excited about serving Jesus. Pretty easy to meet the requirements to get in!!
Our camp experience at GBC is a lot different then most other camps. You've heard me talk a lot about our target group of campers we try to get to camp, and that group really does change the flavor. So for many 15-17 year olds it can be a challenging experience, but an experience that is life changing for the better. It really is like walking onto a mission field serving at GBC! And the awesome thing is that you don't need any previous camp experience to join the program!
So the first week of the program is focused on faith formation, discipleship, discovering who God has made us to be, and getting use to the sites, sounds, and experiences of camp. This first week is followed by an overnighter canoe/backpacking trip! (Because we all need to be stretched to our limits and put out of our comfort zone! Brent Ankrom will already be praying it rains that weekend so more character is built!)
The second week is a continuation of what we have been building upon the first week, but now we are integrating the LDP's into helping run activities and being part of the cabin groups while discipling, and helping them debrief all their experiences!
The third week, the LDP's are mostly in the cabin groups, with focused discipleship and debreifing times! For those who've fallen in love with the camp, (and are most certainly very tired at this point) we often invite them to serve with us as summer missionaries for the rest of summer! (A chance to make money, while doing what you love!) During the entire summer I and my LDP team will be walking closely with the youth, helping them succeed. Being there with them on the down days, and celebrating in the victories!
Please pray for
- Many youth to feel the tug to get more then just a summer job, but to invest in Kingdom Work, while getting incredible life skills! (Conflict resolution anyone?!) And once they feel that tug, to decide to do something about it!
- I'm really in need of another team member or two to join me in leading this group! The committment for sure would be need to be July 3-24th, all summer would be even better, but even just occasionly popping in through the summer would do just dandy!
