Almost... Camp time!!

We are getting close to camp season, I can almost smell it!! Although are plans are held somewhat loosely still, this is the game plan:

We will run Day Camps in July regardless if we are allowed overnight camps. Then in August if we are allowed, we will run overnight camps.

Our day camps are set up so that a camper picks a day of the week, and comes that day each week. So if a camper chooses to come on Mondays, then they come on each Monday for all of July. We found some real benefits with running day camps! The children who would normally struggle with being at camp for various reasons, really seemed to enjoy the lower ratio of Volunteer to camper ratio! Our Director Don was saying that he saw some kids who he has never seen smile in their years of attending, actually smile during day camps last year!

In the background of this picture, in the yellow hoodie is our director. He gets into everything!!

Running day camps in this way also allows for unique opportunities for volunteers to come:

  1. Love kids and share Jesus with them

  2. Get to know our camp and ministry that happens here

  3. With only one day per week commitment (Or More) for July... what a good chance to try something new, challenging, exciting, heartbreaking?

  4. There are not a lot of summer travel options out there....

  5. Everyone wants to spend a day at the beach??? Right?!?

The Invite

So, I invite you to pray about coming to serve with us at Gimli Bible Camp this summer. Whether for day camps, or the overnight camps in August, we are always in need of volunteers! We look for volunteers 16+. I think though, it could be a great opportunity to come serve along with an older child or grandchild. I think its a really rich experience for families to join together and do ministry together. (You can inquire to me more about that idea if you are interested.)

What to expect at GBC day camps!

This is not your typical church like day camp, so you need to remove that idea from your head pretty quick! Many of our kids have never heard the gospel before, or we're the only place they get to hear it! Some of our kids may swear, or be extremely needy. The majority come from fairly rough home life, and that can be evident quick. Our job is not to save them, but to introduce them to Jesus, and to give them a hope! Every kid is one caring adult away from making a decision to follow Jesus! During a normal year, about 50% of our kids are foster kids, and a high percentage are first nations.

If your ready to take the plunge, to grow your faith, to be stretched, to conquer the world (well maybe not that far) Please fill out an application on our website, or contact me or our director Don Roe for any questions you may have! Camp number is (204) 642-5707

Our summer team is usually quite the patchwork quilt at the end, but its amazing how God knits it together and utilizes it for his glory and our character development!!

Blessings!
